The Villa Los Penitentes is located 182 km from the city of Mendoza, and a few kilometers from the Chilean border. It has had great development thanks to Penitentes where you not only find the ski center, but it is also home to lodging for Aconcagua expeditions (the highest peak in the Americas with an elevation of 6,962 meters above sea level). The place got its name from the original rock formations that seemed to represent monks, which you can see from the valley. Penitentes possesses more than 300 hectors of skiable surface, covered in winter by the best dry, packed, powder snow.
The maximum altitude is 3194 meters above sea level and features 614 meters of skiable surface. Penitentes has 8 different levels of elevation and 28 different ski routes divided into beginner, advanced and expert levels. Extreme ski enthusiasts can practice heli-skiing in sectors outside of the routes at 3000 meters of altitude.
The zone is very varied in infrastructure, you can find hotels, meeting points, refuges, hostels, apartments, and restaurants.
